Fly Singapore Airlines Suite Class with Velocity and Flybuys Points

There is truly no limit to the luxury you can achieve with points and miles.

Here’s how your how your weekly grocery shop at Coles could turn into a champagne-filled suite in the sky.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Flybuys, Velocity, and KrisFlyer points, where Aussie shoppers can parlay everyday spending into Singapore Airlines' legendary Suites class. Yes, those jaw-dropping, next-level, “is-this-really-a-commercial-airplane” suites.

Here’s the secret scoop for many: You can transfer your Flybuys points to Velocity Frequent Flyer points, and then from Velocity to Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer program. The current transfer rate from Velocity to KrisFlyer is 1.55 Velocity points for 1 KrisFlyer mile. And those KrisFlyer miles? They’re your golden ticket to Singapore Airlines Suites, arguably one of the most luxurious ways to fly. Think à la carte fine dining, luxurious room (not just seat), and impeccable service. And the cherry on top? They now serve Cristal champagne on board. Yes, you read that right.

Just note, this transfer option can sometimes be finicky. Late last year, reports surfaced that the Velocity-to-KrisFlyer option wasn’t working, but good news, it’s now back in action.

But wait, it gets better! Flybuys often runs transfer bonuses to Velocity, sometimes up to 15% or 20% extra points. If you wait for one of these promos, your Flybuys points become even more powerful. For example, with a 15% bonus, 96,000 Flybuys points would convert to 55,200 Velocity points instead of the usual 48,000. So hold off from turning on automatic transfer so you can pounce for more when the bonus lands.

Got Accor Live Limitless (ALL) points? You can also transfer those to either Velocity or KrisFlyer directly. Accor sometimes also offers bonuses for transferring your points either from Velocity to Accor or from Accor to Krisflyer.

So, how many Krisflyer points do you need to taste this luxury? A one-way ticket in Singapore Airlines Suites from Sydney to Singapore runs 97,000 KrisFlyer miles on a Saver rate or 150,000 miles on an Advantage rate and only AUD 116.22 in fees. That’s only around 150,350 Velocity points for Saver (or even fewer if you wait for a Flybuys transfer bonus). Although I must say, these days the saver rates for these suites are getting harder and harder to find, especially on the longer routes.

Here are some example routes and their points requirements:

  • Sydney (SYD) to/from Singapore (SIN): 97,000 miles (Saver) / 150,000 miles (Advantage)

  • Singapore (SIN) to/from Hongkong (HKG): only 45,000 miles (Saver) / 73,000 miles (Advantage) - extremely rare availability though

  • Singapore (SIN) to/from Delhi (DEL) / Mumbai (BOM): only 58,500 miles (Saver) / 98,000 miles (Advantage)

  • Singapore (SIN) to/from Shanghai (PVG): only 58,500 miles (Saver) / 98,000 miles (Advantage)

  • Singapore (SIN) to/from Tokyo (NRT): only 77,000 miles (Saver) / 120,000 miles (Advantage)

  • Singapore (SIN) to London (LHR): 141,500 miles (Saver) / 225,500 miles (Advantage)

  • Singapore (SIN) to Frankfurt (FRA): 141,500 miles (Saver) / 225,500 miles (Advantage)

SIN to DEL/BOM are the “suite-spots” IMO 😉 because the length of the journey is around 6 hours, yet there are sometimes a few Saver availabilities compared to the ever so popular SIN - SYD or LHR routes. This means you could enjoy this masterpiece of a cabin in under 100,000 Velocity points! However, lucky for us down under (which is a rarety in the aviation industry!) Sydney has the most SQ A380 flight frequencies in the world - which increases your chances to score them compared to the rest of the world.

PRO TIP: You can add a FREE Stopover to a nearby city (e.g. Bangkok after Singapore) if you book the Advantage Class. That means you can squeeze 2 destinations in ONE!

SQ also often switches the routes around to suit demand e.g. the Shanghai route only flies the A380 around Lunar New Year and peak summer season, so stay tuned for route updates. Out of the above, the most consistent routes have been between Singapore and Sydney, Mumbai, London and Frankfurt.

Not just a seat, it’s a room! All this, for AUD 116.22 in fees.

When searching for Suites availability, make sure to look for the Airbus A380 aircraft - not the Boeing 777 - as the A380 is the only plane that features the ultra-luxurious Suites class.

Although the A380 flies to Sydney each day, they’re not on every flight, and the schedule changes throughout the year. However, they are unlikely to change type of aircraft once schedule has been announced.

Pro tip: When booking your Suite, aim for seat 1F instead of 1A. It offers a better layout and window view. Even better, if you’re travelling with a partner, you can book 1F and 2F, lower the wall divider and transform your suites into one massive room. Talk about flying in style!

A massive double bed layout available for Suite 1 and 2.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to make this happen:

  1. Earn Flybuys points through your everyday spending at Coles, Kmart, Target, and other Flybuys partners.

  2. Link your Flybuys account to your Velocity Frequent Flyer account via the Flybuys website and your Velocity Frequent Flyer account with your Krisflyer account.

  3. Wait for a Flybuys-to-Velocity transfer bonus offer (these happen a few times a year).

  4. When a bonus offer is live, transfer your Flybuys points to Velocity Frequent Flyer points.

  5. Once your Velocity points land, transfer them to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer at a 1.55:1 ratio. Sometimes this can take 1 business day, but the last time I did it, it was instantaneous.

  6. Search for Singapore Airlines Suites reward availability on seats.aero, which now includes Singapore Airlines First Class reward seats. You could also search using the SQ mobile app, but you can only see availability for 5 days at a time.

  7. Ensure you select flights on the A380 for the true Suites experience.

  8. When you find available Suites, book them immediately via the Singapore Airlines website or app, availability can disappear fast! Don’t forget to book your free stopover if you booked the Advantage rate.

Sign up to seats.aero pro and check out the filters used here to make your search more efficient.

  • Search +/- 60 days max to enable the tick box under it, marked “show individual flights”

  • Turn on “only direct flights”

  • Type in minimum available seats.

  • You could also add SQ into operating carriers, and

  • Filter to First Class cabin only

  • Tick Krisflyer on the Programs filter

Pro tip: Be flexible with your travel dates and departure cities to maximise your chances of snagging these ultra-rare seats. Ready to take your points game to the next level? Start strategising those transfers, and your next trip might just be a first-class adventure.
